In their latest "Best Cities to Live in Every State," Danbury earned top honors in New York (seventh overall), just behind Centennial in Colorado and a spot ahead of Wilmington, D.E. Hoover, Alabama topped the list.
To determine which cities made the list, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed data of the 550 U.S. cities with populations greater than 65,000 or more as measured by the Census Bureau. The rankings are based on a range of variables that includes crime rates, restaurants, attractions, educational opportunities, affordable housing and employment growth.
24/7 Wall St. cited Danbury's high concentration of restaurants, sports teams and theater companies in the area, which are more prevalent there than they are nationwide. The study also credited Danbury for its high number of recreation centers, golf courses and nature parks.
While praising Danbury's recreation options, 24/7 Wall St. also made note of Danbury's high cost of living.
"Goods and services cost an average of 30.8 percent more in the area than they do nationwide. Though the median household income in Danbury is nearly $13,000 higher than it is nationwide, the bigger paychecks are not enough to offset the area’s high cost of living."
